     programs for landlords

There are many programs that landlords in Oak Park can take advantage of to improve their properties, save money on utility bills, and help fight climate change!

Read below to see the programs that you are eligible for.

Step 1:
energy assessments

Your energy journey starts here

A professional assessment identifies the most effective and affordable ways to save energy and money. Local utility companies are offering the Multi-Family Energy Savings Program (external link). The program offers a free visual assessment, and free or discounted energy saving products. You can also receive assistance in contracting with approved service providers for large energy upgrade projects.

Qualified properties are eligible to receive additional energy assessment services. Call ComEd at 1-855-433-2700 for questions about eligibility.

Fee-based energy efficiency technical assessments are also available from local contractors. A technical assessment includes detailed testing and analysis of your building's energy systems. Learn more here and here (external links).

Note: The Village of Oak Park does not endorse or promote individual contractors.

Step 2: weatherization
Airtight buildings for maximum savings

Local utility companies offer free weathering improvements for income-eligible properties, through the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program (IHWAP). Contact CEDA to learn more. (external link)

Up to 20% of a home's heating and cooling energy is lost due to poor insulation. Weatherization involves stopping air leaks around doors, windows and ventilation systems and using insulation to make homes more comfortable and energy efficient. According to the Weatherization Assistance Program's Technical Assistance Center, "...Weatherization returns $2.72 for every $1 invested."

Step 3:
energy efficiency

Use high-performing equipment to save money over the long-term

Interested in making your building more energy efficient but put off by the high investment? Local utility companies are offering the free Multi-Family Home Energy Savings program (external link). Expect to receive weatherization improvements, free installation of programmable or smart thermostats, and advanced power strips. Instant discounts on energy saving appliances are also available.

Illinois Energy Efficiency Loan program offer special financing for energy efficiency services and products (external link). The loan is repayable as a charge on your monthly bill.

Qualified customers can receive additional free energy efficiency home improvements. Call ComEd at 855-433-2700 to determine if you qualify.

The Village of Oak Park offers weatherization, energy efficiency, and solar panel grants of up to $10,000 for eligible properties.  Funding is limited, and grants are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
